Always the best technical service and customer service!

I recently went to Duncan's in Lincoln to get my AC compressor fixed. The serpentine belt had broken on a road trip across Nevada and the mechanic in Ely replaced it but when he started the car up again the AC compressor quickly overheated. He disconnected the electrical connection to it and it stopped overheating so at least the clutch in it had failed but perhaps there was more damage. So when I got back to Lincoln I went to Duncan's to get that fixed and to get the oil changed. I was quoted $1868 to replace the compressor and then they also said that since there was a lot of corrosion on the battery terminals they needed me to spend $428.90 to fix that! In addition, they said I needed my fuel injectors serviced for $190. Luckily for me I couldn't leave the car overnight that night so I took it home after they did the diagnosis and I spent a few minutes cleaning off the battery terminals and did a rudimentary test with my voltmeter which seemed to indicate everything was fine. I told the service advisor of this so they checked again and verified that no service was necessary. When I picked up the car, all they had done was what was necessary to fix the AC compressor. They did not change the oil or service the fuel injectors. When I pointed this out to the service advisor he said that oils are so good these days that the car didn't need an oil change and that no service was really needed on the fuel injectors. So they were trying to get me to pay $428.90 because my battery had some corrosion on it when all that was needed was to clean it, and they were also trying to get me to pay $190 for fuel injector service which I was told was also not necessary. I feel that this is a very dishonest and disreputable way to run a business. They were obviously trying to get me to pay for service that was not necessary. I honestly don't know if they oversold me on fixing the AC compressor. By my understanding, when the clutch goes and the compressor overheats, it can cause more severe problems where the fluid gets contaminated so the lines need to be flushed and the fluid replaced. And that's what they did, the maximal amount. I have no way of knowing whether or not the only problem was that the clutch died and needed to be replaced. Perhaps, perhaps not. Given what happened with the battery and fuel injectors I'm left wondering whether or not they were honest about that too. So I would not recommend them because I don't think they can be trusted to honestly do only the service that is necessary.

I have waited to write this review about my experience in an effort to give the owner of the company the opportunity correct their mistake and make the situation right. To date they have failed to do so and I feel I must share my experience. We took my teenager's car to this shop for repairs in May of 2024 after it would not run and the check engine light was on. We were told that the engine had failed and must be replaced. After a stressful few days we decided to make the $7400 investment into the new engine for our child's vehicle. The repair to the car took about 8 weeks. Once we received the car back while driving it for the first time it stalled while driving it and so we returned to the shop for a check and were told they are unable to duplicate the issue. We were instructed to drive the car for a tank of gas and let them know if there were any issues. After going to the gym my 17yo son was driving the car as instructed and it caught fire while he was driving. This was the first time he had driven the car since we received it back and were advised that there was nothing wrong with it. Thankfully my son was not injured in the incident but the car was totaled from the fire. I personally went to the shop to speak with the owner after the incident and requested a refund of the $7400 and was refused. I told the manager that I did not want to make the issue public and went to them to give the opportunity to make things right. I am a COO of a large local business and I understand how most of the time we are not given that chance to correct issues before customers take things to the internet. They refused to refund me any of the repair cost. I was paid out by my automobile insurance company for the current market value of the car but Duncan's Automotive refused to refund me what I paid for the repairs $'s that we invested into the repairs that they said we needed to fix the original issue. I then filed a claim with the California Automotive Repair Board. I had this feeling that there was more to facts of my experience then I was being informed of and boy was I right. Mike with the BAR contacted me back this week and told me that his investigation into my claim was concluded. Mike told me that he recommended that Duncan's Automotive refund me the full investment for the repairs however they were not receptive to his request. It turns out that the $7400 repairs that we were told were not covered under warranty from Kia for the engine failure in fact were covered under warranty!. We should have been advised by the shop of this recall and warranty. According to the BAR rep the computer code that was tripped when the car was first accessed should have been an indication to the mechanics to contact the manufacturer for additional information. I was told by Claire with Duncan's that the needed repair was not covered under any warranty. According to the BAR rep The estimator failed to get documentation from Kia, So Duncan's collected $7423 from me for a repair that was covered under a manufacturer warranty and then once informed of their mistake after the car caught fire still refuses to refund me and make this right. Then once the regulating agency CA BAR lets them know of their error and tells them to refund the customer to make it right they refuse. The owner, Jon Duncan says to me that I should file a claim with Kia to attempt to get reimbursed..... LONG STORY RIGHT!!! After several attempts for the business owner to make this right to no avail I will be sending a demand letter to this shop for a full refund and damages. If necessary, I will file a lawsuit in small claims court and call Mike from the BAR to the court to testify. I will update this review once I have more information to share but please stay away from this shop!
